We Are Harlot scratch and sniff interview
The buzz about We Are Harlot has been building for several years now. What began as a solo album for Asking Alexandria vocalist Danny Worsnop took on a life of its own as he hooked up with former Revolution Renaissance drummer Bruno Agra and became roommates with guitar virtuoso Jeff George (Sebastian Bach). The trio began bouncing riffs, melodies and song ideas off each other at a rapid pace and the chemistry sealed the union. Silvertide bassist Brian Weaver solidified the project into a band.
After years of success with Asking Alexandria, Worsnop decided he wanted to pursue the kind of rock and roll that moved his soul. He amicably parted ways with his former heavy metal brethren and embraced Harlot as a full-time effort. Roadrunner/Atlantic snapped the band up and this spring We Are Harlot dropped its long-awaited eponymous debut.
“That’s a four-year monkey, right there,” said George. “The record is as much the people’s as it is ours. There are people who have waited four years. If anybody listening to the album gets the same feeling that we got when we listen to our favorite records, like Aerosmith, Pantera, or Van Halen, then; mission accomplished.”
We Are Harlot’s debut album stands as a sonic mission statement. Songs like “Dancing on Nails”, “Never Turn Back”, “Denial”, and “The One” are energetic and charismatic calling cards. Listening to We Are Harlot, it is near impossible not to find your body responding to the powerful rhythms.
“It’s more true the music I grew up on; what I was raised with,” offered Worsnop of We Are Harlot’s sound. “It’s natural. It feels like home.”
With 2015 poised as the year of the Harlot, we sat down with Worsnop and George to talk about how the band came together, what music means to them, their goal to revitalize rock and roll, and the sweet stench of success. We Are Harlot are on a journey to return the swagger, fun, and soul to a genre grown stagnant. Check out the full interview above and watch the videos for “Dancing on Nails” and “The One”.
