For a band that germinated out of Kokomo, Indiana, this quartet of high energy skull crushers have certainly grown in ability and popularity in a short amount of time. Indiana is not a known hotbed for metal bands, but Threat Level are opening eyes and bludgeoning ears with their own brand of Midwest metal mayhem.
In fact, we may not be able to label these guys loud and local much longer. The band signed an indie record deal (DBM) in 2009 and released their newest album Leading The Vicious, last year. They also signed on with M2 Management this winter, so the Threat Level is definitely rising.
Band members Frank Rapacki (throat), Troy Welch (guitars), Chad Smith (drums) and Jason Weaver (bass), started this avalanche back in 2005. Since then they’ve stamped their brand of powerful metal on a demo EP in 2006, and a debut album A World Beyond Devastation in 2008.
Leading The Vicious is pure power, energy, and aggression in the mold of DevilDriver, Pantera and Lamb of God.
The first single from Leading The Vicious is the title track. From the band’s own website this is what they had to say about the new single and record:
This song is to rev up the engines of their fans to get them ready for the ride of a lifetime. This song is a high octane, in your face, high energy extravaganza! It’s heavy metal with an attitude – if that’s possible. The dramatic use of powerful chorus’s along with thick bass lines and undeniable powerhouse vocals brings this group to the forefront of heavy metal madness. This entire CD is full of songs that excite and delight while the fans beg for more. When you bring individuals with such talent together, the end result is pure gold. THIS is Threat Level.
Threat Level has played with artist such as DevilDriver, Hellyeah, Otep, Bloodsimple, Divine Heresy, Kittie, Suicide Silence, Bury Your Dead, Straight Line Stitch, Dirge Within and many others. They have also opened for Jackyl in front of a maximum crowd of 1500 people. Their song, “The Fire Within” was featured in Rock Scarz Magazine’s compilation CD. “Stand Your Ground” was also featured in Metal Maniacs Magazine’s compilation CD.
There’s a lot to like about these guys, and they are well on their way to making a national name for themselves. Don’t be the last one to jump on the wagon. Check out their music below, then go support the artist and pick up Leading The Vicious from iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby, or Reverbnation! \m/
