A Sound of Thunder picks their favorite albums of 2013
2013 has been a huge year for East Coast based traditional metal contingent, A Sound of Thunder. They kicked off the year with the release of their teaser EP, “Queen of Hell” which featured a cameo from Benedictum‘s Veronica Freeman, as well as a stunning cover of Black Sabbath‘s “Trashed”. They followed this up with the release of their third full length studio album, “Time’s Arrow” which featured a cameo from Blaze Bayley, and further solidified the group as one of the most exciting new acts in metal. “Time’s Arrow” took #17 on out Top 50 Metal Albums list for 2013.
That would be a pretty impressive year for most bands, but that was not enough for A Sound of Thunder. In October the band announced a Kickstarter campaign with fans to help finish their fourth album, “The Lesser Key of Solomon“. Fans blew the campaign up, more than doubling the initial $10,000 goal and in the process secured a separate covers album from the band.
To round the year out, vocalist Nina Osegueda returned the favor from Veronica Freeman, doing her own cameo on Benedictum’s newest offering, “Obey“.
Metalholic reached out to Osegueda, guitarist Josh Schwartz, bassist Jesse Keen, and drummer Chris Haren for their Top 5 album picks for 2013. Haren refused to come out of his man cave to play, content to bash his drums and listen to old Rush and Zeppelin albums, but the others lists can be found below:
