Megadeth and Mayhem – A Perfect Fit
On Day 4 of 2011 Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival, the band’s rolled into Boise, Idaho. Not really what most would think of as a hotbed of metal, but before the doors even opened at the Idaho Center, the event had already outsold Day 3 in Washington.
In chatting with the band’s prior to their sets, one name kept popping up all day long, and that was Megadeth. Which as skinsman Shawn Drover acknowledged, is a good thing. This is Megadeth‘s first year with Mayhem Festival, and the band looked upon as an opportunity to reach an even wider audience if that’s possible. I mean, who doesn’t already know Megadeth?
The band recently completed recording of their 13th album, appropriately titled TH1RT3EN. They entered Vic’s Garage with taskmaster producer Johnny K, and have created what should be another crushing weapon in the Megadeth arsenal. The song “Never Dead”, has been used for a new video game, and the band is playing “Public Enemy No. 1” live on the Mayhem tour. Fans can even pre-order the CD at Mayhem with an autographed poster and such.
With the local rodeo show set up in the background, Shawn Drover took time to talk about the tour, the new album, the allure of normalcy and his microwave cooking skills. Despite catering crews doing their best to make more noise than the bands onstage, we soldiered through.
