Switzerland’s Shakra just released its eighth studio album, “Powerplay” which immediately jumped to number one on the Swiss album charts. This week Metalholic caught up with vocalist John Prakesh via Skype to talk about the new record, his influences, and much more.
“Powerplay” marks the band’s second album with Prakesh who joined the band for the record, “Back On Track“, an album that put Shakra back on top of the charts. It would be unfair to call the Chennai, India born singer the band’s savior but he was the catalyst for reinvigorating the group. His diverse vocal styles opened Shakra‘s sound up even further. Prakesh manages to sound like every great singer you love without sounding exactly like any of them.
Shakra also includes longtime band members Thom Blunier (guitar), Roger Tanner (drums), Thomas Muster (guitar, songwriter), and recent addition, bassist Dominik Pfister.
“Powerplay” continues the evolution of the songwriting path for guitarist Muster who began to alter his style with “Back On Track“. Prakesh and I talked about this, his lyrical themes, his love of Bon Jovi and Myles Kennedy, making videos, and his favorite track on the new record.
