Sevendust interview with Clint Lowery
This week, Atlanta, Georgia’s alternative metal quintet, Sevendust releases its first studio acoustic album, “Time Travelers & Bonfires” on 7Bros Records. In celebration the band has taken to the road for a spring and summer acoustic tour. Metalholic and Metal Nation Radio caught up with guitarist Clint Lowery on the date of their Reno, Nevada show. We discussed making the new record and the band’s plans for a retrospective DVD package that will include both a standard concert and an acoustic performance as well as a history of the band.
This is not the first time Sevendust has played unplugged. In 2003 after the release of “Seasons“, the band embarked on an acoustic tour which resulted in the recording of the 2004 release, “Southside Double-Wide: Acoustic Live“.
Lowery, along with vocalist Lajon Witherspoon, bassist Vince Hornsby, drummer Morgan Rose and fellow guitarist, John Connolly started Sevendust 20 years ago. “Time Travelers & Bonfires” marks the band’s 1oth studio effort and the follow-up to last year’s “Black Out the Sun“. Lowery shared that the band almost recorded an acoustic version of the title track from that album for the new record before they ran out of time in the studio. He offered that the band hopes to do another acoustic album in a couple of years and make it a regular part f the band’s cycle.
“Time Travelers & Bonfires” will include six new songs as well as newly unplugged recordings of six classic Sevendust tracks including, “Black”, Trust”, “Crucified”, Denial”, “Gone” and “Karma”. Lowery says besides songs from the new record they will be pulling out a number of gems for the tour including “Rumble Fish” among others. Clint shared that there is a more relaxed vibe on the acoustic tour. They get on stage every night and just see where things take them.
