Josey Scott Gets Under Our Skin and Tells Us What A Badass Really Is
After being around for over 15 years, the badass rockers from Memphis have definitely made their mark in the music industry. Also the movies, wrestling and video games. Saliva released their 7th studio album, Under Your Skin on March 22, 2011 via Island Records and it debuted at #86 in the U.S. Billboard 200.
This is the band’s first album as a four piece following last year’s departure of guitarist Jonathan Montoya. While the loss may be felt personally or on stage, there is no let down in the band’s sound on the new record.
After starting off with veteran producer Bob Marlette (Alice Cooper, Ozzy Osbourne, Seether, Shinedown) at the outset of Under Your Skin the band changed it up and switched to Grammy nominated producer, Howard Benson (Halestorm, Three Days Grace, Flyleaf, Papa Roach). Scott says working with Benson was “like a dream come true. I’ve been trying to get a date with him for a long time.”
With yet another new song, “Hate Me” being used this year by the WWE at their Money In The Bank event, Saliva continues to make their mark on pop culture. This includes, of course, their new song “Badass”, being featured in the movie SAW 3-D. On the WWE’s use of the band’s music he says he grew up knowing the holy trinity of “Jesus, Elvis and Jerry Lawler.”
Saliva is about to embark on the Under The Skin of Angels Tour alongside Filter, Anew Revolution and Heart-Set Self Destruct beginning July 17th. You can check out tour dates at www.undertheskinofangels.com and of course www.saliva.com.
This week I had a chance to sit down and talk with Josey Scott about Under Your Skin, so named for the music’s tattoo propensity to get under their skin as they wrote it. He gave his advice to new bands, his opinion of a REAL badass, where the hell he came up with the name Saliva and much more!
