Six years since his death rock music singer Ronnie James DIO did put emphasis on one many cancers not many of us talk about. On Monday May 22, 2016 the 2nd annual “Ride for Ronnie” Motorcycle Rally and concert at Los Encinos State Historic Park at Encino California is to get the word out of the disease to focus on our health. The motorcycle riders started at Harley Davidson of Glendale, CA rumbling on the 101 freeway to the park. During the performances a $25,000 check presented to the UC Regent, as items for auction such signed guitars, a framed photo of the RJD Stand Up & Shout Tribute album hosted KLOS radio personality Frank Kramer of Heidi and Frank.
There were performances were by Great White, Lita Ford, Gabbie Rae, Budderside, Sonia Harley, DIO Disciples, Doctors of Earth, and it was hosted by DJ Will.
There were Meet & Greets with the band members, Wendy DIO, and cast members of the television show Sons of Anrachy that included (Sean McNabb (Tacoma-VP), Emilo Riveria (Marcus Alavrez) Michael Beach (Taddarius Orwell ‘T.O.’ Cross) and Natalie Skyy (Kiki).
There were merchants selling the wares, food and drinks and information on cancer. One of the goals was to raise awareness that other forms of cancer; prostate, colon, lung and others do not receive the same amount of funding (or attention) that breast cancer receives through taxes and private donations, which should not be. Thanks Wendy DIO. This event will get bigger each year.
The Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund (www.diocancerfund.org) began in 2010 as a tribute to the memory of the late voice behind Black Sabbath, Rainbow and his own band Dio after Ronnie lost his hard-fought battle with gastric cancer. Since that time, the Dio Cancer Fund has raised more than $1 million for cancer research and education while his widow Wendy Dio has worked tirelessly to convey the message that early detection saves lives.
