There was a time when the idea of being a rock star was all about glory, money, and fame (if not infamy). These days the life of most rockers is no different than yours or mine. Doing the daily grind to scratch out a meager living. It’s no easy path, and the only true rewards are the lasting memories you make with your music, and knowing that for an hour every night you can step on stage and make love with your fans. And those fans are what keeps Rick DeJesus and the rest of Adelitas Way pumped to make music and hit the highways.
Despite the grueling hours of driving, bad food, and constant waiting around for 22 of 24 hours, Rick is happy to be out there, for there are few highs greater than sharing something you’ve created with others who appreciate the gift.
Yesterday (March 15th), Adelitas Way released the first single, “Sick” from their sophomore album, Home School Valedictorian. The band’s newest gift to their diehard fans. The album won’t hit stores and iTunes until June 7th, but in the meantime fans can get “Sick” with the band, and catch them back on the road with Sick Puppies, Framing Hanley and Madam Adam.
The new album is like “a kick in the face” as Rick puts it; full of driving melodies, and fueled by angst and adrenaline. The album kicks ass from beginning to end, and Theory of a Deadman‘s Tyler Connolly puts in an appearance on the record as well.
Rather than give it all away, Metalholic sat down with Rick as he prepared to dine at Fridays in Buffalo, New York (a place this road dog has eaten many a meal), mere hours before the new tour was to kick off. He gave us goods on Home School Valedictorian, what’s making him “Sick” these days, how he feels about the NFL Lockout, and how Kim Kardashian and vanity “stars” of her ilk prompted a song on the record.
