All hail the Chief! The Goddess of Valhalla
The Commander-In-Chief is an absolutely astonishing entry into the world of hard rock and metal. The 22-year-old Norwegian is a feral 7-string shred master. Add to that she is also a dynamic vocalist with a four octave range. Since 2008 she’s studied the old school Italian Bel Canto technique with daily singing lessons. She speaks four languages, has lived all over the world (Norway, Italy, U.S., U.K.) and plays her own Ibanez prototype 7 string Falchion. And for those out there who look first and listen later, she’s also a rock goddess, who could easily model rather than metal. Thank goodness her brain is as vast as her talent and beauty. In short, she’ll rock your ass off and doesn’t even expect you to know her name. Not that she ever gave it to you anyway.
TCIC started to play guitar in 2005. Three years later, as a senior in high school, living in Chicago, she signed with Elisabeth Hagen as her fulltime manager and “The Commander In Chief” was born. She designed her own stage outfit and later had it tailor-made in Los Angeles. She already sports endorsement deals with Ibanez, Seymour Duncan and Ernie Ball. She credits her guitar mentor, 7 string virtuoso Ramon Ortiz (Puya, Ankla) for her remarkable progress as a lead guitarist. Her focus was mainly on technical riffs/rhythm guitar, until she met him in 2010.
With the start of her Myspace page in June 2008, she got her first die-hard fans with the demo version of her song “Battle for the Mind” (recorded with Grammy nominated producer Paul Richmond).
Legendary producer Sterling Winfield (Pantera, Hellyeah, Hatebreed) remixed last year’s remake of Black Sabbath‘s “Paranoid”, which created a monster buzz in the metal community. The Commander-In-Chief began raising the flag for salute. Offered Winfield on the upstart fearless fretress:
“In my twenty plus years as a producer and engineer, I can honestly say that I have never seen or heard anything like what she has to offer. Killer guitar-driven progressive hard rock, along with an unbelievable over-the-top vocal style, with just enough pop added so that it can be accessible to all. Neatly wrapped up in an image that is definitely fresh and exciting. I am looking forward to work with her again soon! Rock on, Commander! Well done!”
This month, TCIC, once again working with Winfield, released her debut four song EP Evolution. The EP’s tracks cover such topics as science gone wrong. Inspired by the story of the over ambitious scientist who invented the lobotomy and also the Frankenstein-book (“Evolution”). On the track “Famous”, CIC gives a slap in the face to reality shows. Inspired by statements made by “The Situation” and Kim Kardashian. On “Thou” she offers up a sarcastic Metal Hymn to the one true God in society – Money. It is all about GREED. The EP’s final track is the semi-ballad, “Let It Go”, written to her younger brother 2 years ago. It is dedicated to anyone who has been bullied or suffers from depression. You can currently listen to the full EP here, and purchase it at CD Baby or iTunes.
The Commander-In-Chief now calls London home, but clearly the world is her stage, and she is ready for global domination. Her music mixes traditional metal influences with elements of punk, prog and power metal and even a touch of pop. In celebration of President’s Day we caught up with The Commander-In-Chief to discuss the process of Evolution and all that is relevant to the survival of metal. Hear what she has to say and abide her words.
