Meet Phoenix’s Violent Revolution
It has been said that there are only two seasons in Phoenix, Arizona–summer and hell. Summer does not begin until Halloween. It is this cauldron that forged revisionist thrashover mutants, Violent Revolution. The band was founded in November 2014 by George Robb, original bassist for Los Angeles-based thrashers Agent Steel back in the early 80s. It’s that old school 80s crossover thrash that is at the heart of Violent Revolution’s sound, which also captures elements of punk and hardcore.
As the band bio offers:
“They decided that they had heard enough of the ‘new metal’ nonsense and needed an infusion of the old school crunch that has been missing in today’s scene. Today’s new metalheads need something new…It’s time for a revolution!!!”
Joining Robb on his mission are drummer John Gilleland and guitarists David Rios and Don Funk. Originally a quintet, Funk recently absorbed vocal duties as well with the departure of the band’s former vocalist. The band recently dropped a four track demo, Damaged Society, that gives a good sense of what listeners might expect from Violent Revolution‘s anticipated 2016 full-length debut.
Metalholic recently touched base with Robb who shared a bit of backstory on the four tracks from Damaged Society:
DAMAGED – This is a song about a person that has been lead to the edge emotionally, physically and mentally. He is trying to find that last ounce of strength to push on.
FINAL VOW – Kind of an extension of ‘Damaged’, someone broken down that is fighting back. He is trying to find that last ounce of strength to push on.
ALL HAIL – About a politician that seems harmless until he takes office….. then the other shoe drops.
SUDDEN DEATH – This one is actually about the working man. The guy that has to go out everyday to make a living.
Robb, who handled the vocals on Damaged Society, shared that the band is preparing to enter the studio in January to begin production on their first record. Something he expects to be a 10 track affair. In preparation for the quartet’s November show with Exodus, the guys wrote three new tunes in a burst of creative influence. The guys will perform with Warbringer and Enforcer in early February.
The band’s influences include Slayer, Exodus, D.R.I., S.O.D., and The Exploited, but you can get a sense of their sound by listening to and even downloading the four tracks from Damaged Society below.
