Oklahoma City’s (Shawnee, to be exact) A Strand of Fate is a difficult band to peg, style wise. There are elements of so many genres mixed throughout their sound, which keeps it fresh, innovative and intriguing. The band’s 5-song debut EP, Guide Our Destiny, is packed with heavy grooves, solid melodies over tight rhythms, chunky guitars, all cemented with a crushing bottom end. The foundation is set for this quartet to make a sledgehammer impact given the right opportunity.
Oddly three-quarters of the band originally hailed from California, with only drummer Josh Buchanan being a native Oklahoman. Guitarists George Wilkes and Travis Swett combined with vocalist Wayne Allison to round out the band. Bassist Chris Cooper added his vibe to the mix as well.
In listening to the band’s songs, one can’t help but feel like a journey is underway. The songs lead us off in one direction and before we know it we’re somewhere completely different, yet it holds together so well.
Rather than try to quantify A Strand of Fate‘s sound, I recommend listening for yourself. Their full EP is below, and you can even download three of the tracks for free.
While the guys are not all the way there just yet, there is enough fulfilled promise in where they are so far as to be deserving of a label’s attention. In the studio, with the right producer and a little guidance, these guys could crumble granite. All it takes is continued perseverance, hard work, a little luck, and A Strand of Fate.
