Minneapolis, Minnesota quartet, New Medicine has been on the road for nearly two straight years prepping for the release of, and then is support of its debut album, Race You To The Bottom. The band was founded in 2009 by frontman Jake Scherer along with bassist Matt Brady, guitarist Dan Garland, and kit killer Ryan Guanzon.
New Medicine‘s dynamic sound has made the band a tour favorite, having connected with Halestorm, then Rockstar Energy’s Uproar Festival, then a slot on the Avenged Sevenfold/StoneSour tour. Now the guys are back on the road with their friends in Adelitas Way, along with Emphatic and Art of Dying. It’s a melodic hard rock/metal lover’s dream tour.
Vocalist Jake Scherer is a prolific songwriter, and has stockpiled a ton of material for the band’s next couple of albums, but New Medicine is still riding the wave of excitement over its debut. Race You To The Bottom is an 11-track gritty and raucous, melodic punk metal masterpiece. The songs mix uptempo, feel good, headbanging footstompers with socially conscious and at times personally poignant moments.
As the guys pulled the van into Jaunita’s in Little Rock, Arkansas, Jake gave us a call to talk the never-ending tour, what the guys do to maintain their sanity, when we might see a second New Medicine record, along with chatter about blunts, blown tires, and Christmas carols.
