Lisbon, Portugal’s gothic metal masters, Moonspell, celebrate kicking off their third decade with a deluxe double album, Alpha Noir/Omega White. For those in America the two discs will have to be bought separately, but the combination of the two really compares and contrasts the two sides of the band’s music.
For years the band has struggled to find a way to make the two co-exist on one record. With Alpha Noir and Omega White the band chose to separate the two dynamics of their signature sound, freeing themselves creatively.
This weekend I had the opportunity to speak with the band’s drummer of two decades about his move from America to Portugal in his teens, recording his drum parts in a swimming pool, and the battle of dark and light the band faces each time they enter the studio to record a new album.
