Chicago’s macho metal masters Ion Vein have returned after a long trail of enduring trapdoors and tribulations. It’s been a long time since we’ve had new music from these windy city bastards, but alas they have returned, and you can get your ears on their new Digital EP IV v1.0 FREE.
Said founder guitarist Chris Lotesto:
“It’s been a long, hard road, but the time has finally come for us to be able to release new Ion Vein music to the world, and we couldn’t be more excited! We’re making our first DR (digital release) IV v1.0 available to you for free for a limited time as a token of our appreciation for your continued patience and support. We’ve been through quite a lot since the release of Reigning Memories in 2003, and the only thing that kept us going was the belief in the strength of the new material, so we hope you enjoy it… and remember to crank it loud!”
One of those changes is new frontman and vocal beast Scott Featherstone, whose powerful voice can strip paint from the walls. Bassist Rob Such and drummer Chuck White round out a line-up that hits like a thunderbolt to the family sac.
The songs on IV v1.0 were produced/engineered and mixed by Neil Kernon (Nile, Nevermore, Queensrÿche, Judas Priest), and mastered by Alan Douches (Unearth, Shadows Fall).
This week Lotesto dropped Metalholic a line with his track by track commentary on IV v.1.0:
The three songs on IV v1.0 deal with the inner struggles and self-battles that so many of us go through and work through on a daily basis yet somehow we find the strength deep within to overcome, rise above, and succeed!
Enough – “Enough” is essentially about a relationship gone bad but it’s not necessarily about a love interest, it’s about any relationship; business, friends, acquaintances, etc. where you’ve been pushed to the limit and have had “Enough” of all if it, the lies, the broken promises, the BS! This song could very well be the battle cry or the anthem for today’s society; we’ve all had enough of
everything from bad government to bad people, period!
Love/Hate – “Love/Hate” is quite simply about the emotional cycle someone goes through during a bad, unwanted break-up, and how the undying love gives way to hateful emotions brought on at your lowest moments of unbridled pain and suffering. While you can’t escape the natural progression of emotions, you must endure and move on.
Anger Inside: – “Anger Inside” is about facing your fears, facing your demons, facing anyone or anything that has had a foothold on you in some way and you have finally risen above it all to unleash the power of your own self will to conquer.
Go grab Ion Vein‘s new digital EP while it’s still gratis metallus, and spread the word of what your heard! Be sure to wear a cup before pressing play!
