It’s sort of odd to hear the founder and catalyst behind one of the world’s leading melodic death and folk metal bands reveal that neither he nor the other members of Eluveitie listen to or even care for folk metal. According to vocalist Chrigel Glanzmann the band would prefer to crank up some Pantera or even country rather than listen to folk metal. Though he does acknowledge the band loves their own music. This was one of the many things Eluveitie‘s principal songwriter discussed with me as the band stopped over in New Mexico on their current tour with Children of Bodom.
The band’s fifth album, Helvetios was released in Europe last week on Nuclear Blast records, and the rest of the world will get it later this month. Helvetios (pronounced Hellveetios) marks the band’s first full on concept record. At seventeen tracks long it is a stunning sonic journey. You can read our review here.
Chrigel shared with me the story of Helvetios, the Gaulish wars, his passion for truffles, and he confirmed that while there will be another acoustic album, it may not be the next record as rumors on the internet have proclaimed. Don’t miss the new album or the tour, and listen to Chrigel below.
