Sacramento-based Science-metallers Helion Prime, have enjoyed something of a whirlwind year, beginning with the releases of its debut self-titled album in February 2016, and coming full circle with its worldwide re-issue through Germany’s AFM Records this February. The band’s eponymous debut immediately turned heads in the power metal world, and the strength of the music found the album on more than a few “Best of Year-End” lists, including the #26 spot on Metalholic’s Top 50 Hard Rock and Metal albums of 2016 list, and Best Debut Album on my own Top 10 List.
The science-based power metal quintet is the newest addition to the AFM roster. The group, founded by guitarist Jason Ashcraft and vocalist Heather Michele in 2014. AFM Records will officially release the album, titled Helion Prime, on February 24th worldwide. The band, which also includes bassist Jeremy Steinhouse and new drummer Alexander Bosson, recently added lead guitarist Chad Anderson. In mid-2016, Heather Michelle stepped down to focus on her other band, Graveshadow. This winter, Helion Prime tapped the amazing Kayla Dixon to handle vocal duties, and fans are eagerly anticipating new music from the band. Dixon, who is also an actress, will appear in the 2017 film “I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore.”
You can get a sneak peek of Kayla singing a track from the self-titled album below:
Bosson spoke about his recent addition to Helion Prime:
“I’m thrilled to announce that I have officially joined as the new drummer of Helion Prime!!! I love the material on the first album and have had a blast learning it! We’ve already started working on the second album and I feel the music is perfect for me to offer my style and ability and add my own flavor to some incredible material. These guys have immediately welcomed me in like a member of the family and i couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity!”
Offers Ashcraft of the band’s new signing with AFM:
“I am not even sure where to begin when it comes to expressing how I feel. There are many times in your life where you reach a moment and realize things will never be the same. This is exactly one of those moments. Myself and Helion Prime are extremely thrilled to be joining the AFM family and calling them home. The amount of support, enthusiasm and confidence they have shown the band means everything to me. When we were first approached the band was in a state of uncertainty having just lost our singer but they still believed in us and worked with us through it. Now having a complete line up again and half way through writing the sophomore album I am ready to take these next steps with AFM. I look forward to the future and everything that it brings.”
From Science Fact to Science Fiction … that’s the lyrical range of topics for Helion Prime. The band is a refreshing, high class addition to the scene – highly recommended to check out for fans of Iron Savior, Star One, Dream Evil, Iced Earth and even Amaranthe. It’s melodic, at times rough, classic but modern at the same time, throughout cleverly arranged and adds a unique touch to it. Helion Prime is a band that combines epic (female) vocals with strong guitar work and a natural instinct for killer melodies. Watch out for things to come from this amazing new and promising group.
