2015 Hatebreed interview
Bridgeport, Connecticut’s hardcore metalurgists, Hatebreed is currently out tearing up the road with Slipknot on the Prepare for Hell Tour. Formed in 1994, the band has released six full-length albums, a cover album, and a compilation EP. Hatebreed has performed at Ozzfest, Wacken, Mayhem Fest, and they have shared the stage with many notable bands including Slayer, Mastadon, System of a Down, and many others.
In 2004, the band was nominated for a Grammy for “Best Metal Performance,” for the track “Live For This” from their Rise of Brutality album.
Founders Jamey Jasta (vocals), Chris Beattie (bass) and Wayne Lozinak remain the core of the band along with long-time members; drummer Matt Byrne, and guitarist Frank Novinec.
The band’s latest album, The Divinity of Purpose, was released in January 2013. With over 17,000 copies sold in the first week, the album debuted at #20 on the Billboard 200 chart, the highest debut of any Hatebreed album.
The current “Prepare for Hell” tour hit Knoxville last week, and I was lucky enough to get to sit down with guitarist Frank Novinec for a few moments before the show. My photographer was unable to make it in time for the interview, so it ended up being filmed by my 15-year-old son, Jacob Baysinger. I can already tell he’s going to be a pro.
Frank and I discussed the current tour with Slipknot, as well as some of the upcoming stuff that Hatebreed has going on. It’s been a couple of years since Hatebreed released an album, is there a hint of something new coming up? Check out the interview in the video below. (I hope Frank will forgive me for pronouncing his last name wrong.)
The Prepare for Hell tour will continue this spring/summer, and tickets can be found here. Check out the interview below.
