Formed in 1996, French band, Gojira, have been steadily gaining popularity within the metal scene for their progressive technical death metal machinations. Last year saw the band sign with major metal label Roadrunner Records and release their fifth record L’Enfant Sauvage. The band was set to go on tour with Lamb of God and Dethklok, but the unfortunate arrest of Lamb of God’s singer Randy Blythe caused the cancellation of that tour. Gojira scrambled and played a short tour around the East Coast.
With the start of 2013, Gojira have kicked off a new headlining tour with The Devin Townsend Project and openers The Atlas Moth. The band was recently nommed for Best Album of 2012 for the Revolver Golden God Awards. Drummer Mario Duplantier was also nominated in the Best Drummer category. We caught up with Duplantier at the Dallas, Texas performance and sat down to talk about the new album, the tour, art and Mario’s death metal growl.
