2015 Floor Jansen interview
Our journey today involves an extremely seasoned, near two-decade-old band mastered in the art of symphonic metal. Selling innumerable copies of records worldwide; including the greats Once, Wishmaster, and Century Child, the band in question is none other than Nightwish. Formed back in the mid-90’s by lead songwriter and keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen, guitarist Emppu Vuorinen, and followed by drummer Jukka Nevalainen and bassist/vocalist Marco Hietala, the line-up has made an indelible mark in metal.
This spring the band returns with its latest work, Endless Forms Most Beautiful. The album is the first to feature the band’s new vocalist, Floor Jansen of ReVamp and After Forever. Jansen’s vocals and presence strike the perfect balance between original vocalist Tarja Turunen and the more recent, Anette Olzon. IT is also the first album to feature Troy Donockley as a full-time member. He adds some flavor with his uilleann pipes, low whistle, bodhran, bouzouki, and even adds lead vocals on a couple fo tracks.
Gearing up for the US tour with Delain and Sabaton, Metalholic, Metal Wani and Metal Nation Radio had a chat with the band’s dynamic vocalist, Floor Jansen. She discusses new album Endless Forms Most Beautiful, songwriting, her majestic vocals, working with Tuomas and the gang, her opinion on the “female fronted” symphonic metal tag, the upcoming tour, and much more.
