There are certain bands that everyone seems to know, they tend to hang around the periphery of the music scene, never quite fitting into a particular place. Such is the case with Louisiana’s Lillian Axe. The New Orleans based rockers surfaced in the midst of the early 80s glam-metal era, and most fans never noticed the difference between LA. and L.A. Thus Lillian Axe became known as a Sunset Strip glam band. But as grunge flushed most of those bands off the Sunset Strip, one band continued to create solid if often overlooked albums.
Over the years, founder and guitarist Steve Blaze has seen many a musical trend come and go, but he has kept true to his own unique style of writing, and in return the Lillian Axe fan base has remained by his side. Now, nearly 30 years after it all began, the band has just released its most impressive and timely album to date. XI: The Days Before Tomorrow showcases everything that Lillian Axe fans have come to love while taking everything to a new and dynamic level. Steve will be the first to tell you that this is the best album he’s written, and with new vocalist Brian Jones, the band now has an inspired voice to carry the band through this decade and beyond.
I caught up with Steve this weekend in N’awlins and we spoke for over an hour about his story, the band’s history, legacy and future. We talked in-depth about the new album, working with Sylvia Massey, some of the stories behind the new songs, his new vocalist, and even his deeply philosophical conversations with A&E star, Billy The Exterminator. So settle in and listen to one of hard rock’s true gentlemen and discover the days before tomorrow.
Lillian Axe is also running a contest right now. Get the details below:
CONTEST #1: As you may know, Steve Blaze and Brian Jones both have Twitter accounts. We need help getting those two more followers. Here is where you come in. Starting tonight, the first person to refer 50 NEW followers to Brian will receive an autographed European version of the album, guitar picks and a t-shirt. That is easy, right? All you have to do is this. Refer your fellow Twitter friends to Brian’s Twitter account which is @LillianAxeVox. After this person “follows” Brian, simply have them email email@example.com and tell them to make sure that they include in the body of the message that they were referred by you. Period. It’s that simple and you will take home some really cool prizes. So, go out and refer your friends and family to follow Brian and win some really cool prizes in return.
CONTEST #2: SAME AS CONTEST #1. This contest is doing the same thing for Steve Blaze and his Twitter account name is @blazesteve. Again, please make sure you have these NEW followers email firstname.lastname@example.org and make sure that they mention you referred them.Again, very simple contest. So, let’s get this thing rolling and win some great prizes. Now, for the granddaddy of all contests….
GRAND CONTEST: Same rules apply as Contests mentioned above, however, the numbers increase dramatically as does the prize. For the first person who refers 500 NEW followers on Twitter for both Brian and Steve (these can be combined, i.e. Steve gets 300 new followers, Brian gets 200, etc.) You will win an Ibanez Acoustic Guitar signed by Steve Blaze himself as well as the rest of the band. That is an amazing prize for just spreading the word of our Twitter accounts. Again, to reiterate, all entries will be sent via email to email@example.com and they must include your name as being the referral. VERY IMPORTANT: THE PERSON THAT IS SENDING THE EMAIL MUST INCLUDE THEIR TWITTER NAME AS WELL SO THAT WE CAN VERIFY THAT THEY ARE “NEW” FOLLOWERS. So, the contests begin now and we will have 3 winners. The contest runs through March 31 so you have plenty of time to get the word out and to help get Lillian Axe on top where we should be. If you have any questions in regards to these contests, please let us know. Have fun with this everyone and there are great prizes at hand. Who is going to win the autographed guitar? Let’s rock and roll guys. More contests being planned for the future as well. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE AND THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO. WE LOVE YOU.
