The 2011 holiday season finds San Diego’s metalcore heroes, As I Lay Dying, firmly entrenched on their A Decade of Destruction Tour. The 10th Anniversary excursion finds the guys on the road with Of Mice & Men, The Ghost Inside, Iwrestledabearonce and Sylosis. The tour is scheduled to continue through the Midwest, Southwest and lower West coast until they wrap up in Las Vegas on December 17th.
The band, frontman Tim Lambesis, drummer Jordan Mancino, bassist Josh Gilbert, and guitarists Nick Hipa and Phil Sgrosso, just returned from a European tour with Amon Amarth.
Over the last decade the band has released five albums, and assaulted the world from global stages. In honor of the band’s success and as a reward to its faithful followers, a new album, Decas, hit stores and digital outlets last month. Decas offers fans three new tracks, four cover songs, and a handful of remixes spanning the band’s successful career.
In 2012, As I Lay Dying expects to re-enter the studio to record its next full length original effort, which guitarist Sgrosso says will be out sometime next year. I caught up with the guys in Nashville, and Phil talked about 10 years of As I Lay Dying, his interests in football, movies, and Kevin Bacon?. While 2011 marks a milestone for the group, 2012 will bring another record and possibly a slot on Mayhem Festival. Cross your fingers. Phil tells us about some of his favorite metal albums of all time, and his pick for the best of 2011, and best ever. And then there’s that quirky new video for the band’s cover of Judas Priest‘s “Hellion/Electric Eye”…
