Epica interview with Mark Jansen
Epica emerged as a major band in the international scene at the end of 2002. Since then the band has been living in a tornado of studio recordings, interviews, screaming fans and live performances. With every new album, Epica pushes the boundaries by reinventing their distinctive style, and nothing seems to come in the way of making this unstoppable Dutch band from rising to the top. Metalholic and Metal Wani staffers Owais ‘Vitek’ Nabi and Srishti Das recently caught up with Mark Jansen, one of the founding members, guitarist and growling vocalist of the band to discuss the Epica journey so far. He talks in-depth about the new album ‘The Quantum Enigma’ that he described as a balanced and mature album. Mark talks about how the band makes sure they work their best to make their songs new and fresh, because boring and plain would just not be Epica. The band believes that before ‘Retrospect’ they before were in phase one and this is the new phase of their career as well as of their life as a band. They also state that through the hurdles of their life, they have learned to adjust and won’t ever give it up. After all, being an international successful musician has always been “the dream” for the band and they have learned from their many mistakes how to make it all happen. Mark talks also talks about the song writing process and the Quantum Physics-based concept of the new album, which will leave fans and followers thinking in-depth, wondering about how the world would start behaving if we stopped looking at it.
