Defy Tolerance interview
Founded in 2011 by vocalist and guitarist Freddy Kilo, Defy Tolerance combines elements of bands as diverse as Tool, Godsmack, Alter Bridge and Sevendust to create its own unique blend of dark, emotive hard rock. Kilo connected with bassist Donny Rosko, and after an exhaustive search tabbed fellow Phoenix musician Garin Wolfe to handle the drums. After a short run as a trio, guitarist Brian Miller was added to bring “the shred.”
The band’s debut album, “Stop the Bleeding” was produced by former Alice Cooper/Fifth Angel drummer, Ken Mary at SonicPhish Studios in Phoenix, Arizona. Kilo met Mary when he was trying to work up some songs as a solo artist. Kilo said it was only natural to have Ken handle the debut Defy Tolerance record.
This month, Metalholic caught up with Kilo to learn more about this Southwest import. He discusses the band’s beginnings, the debut album, his songwriting process, and what the future holds for Defy Tolerance.
