Terror – The Walls Will Fall
Label: Pure Noise Records
Release Date: April 28, 2017
Two-years after the release of its critically lauded sixth studio album The 25th Hour, Los Angeles hardcore mainstays, Terror return with a new 5-track EP, The Walls Will Fall. Founded in 2002 by vocalist Scott Vogel and drummer Nick Jett, the quintet also includes guitarists Martin Stewart and Jordan Posner along with bassist David Wood. The EP marks the band’s first for Pure Noise Records and is packed with Terror’s trademark thrash and punk fueled hardcore aggression.
The EP opens up with the mid-tempo crusher, “Balance the Odds.” The momentum picks up and turns into a pit stomper. Vogel’s baleful vocals are paced by muscular riffs from Stewart and Posner and pummeling rhythms from Wood and Jett.
This is followed by the violent maelstrom of “Kill ‘Em Off,” replete with gang vocals and thrashy chainsaw riffage. Then it’s back into the pit for the brutal throat punch of the EP’s title track that hits like an unhinged melee, and rolls out in a slow grind.
“No Love Lost” is another full-tilt punisher, and Vogel goes full brutality on the bruising dust-up, “Step To You,” which serves as the closing track to this 5-song onslaught.
Terror bring malevolent attitude and street-wise swagger to The Walls Will Fall. The beefy guitars and relentless rhythm section are reminders of the band’s potent brand of hardcore. While its only 5 tracks, The Walls Will Fall is a powerful reminder of why Terror has been so influential.
