Behemoth ~ Abyssus Abyssum Invocat (Metal Blade)
Release Date: June 7, 2011
Poland’s blackened death metal masters, Behemoth, have heard their fans cries, and have responded with Abyssus Abyssum Invocat. Be careful what you wish for…
While fans anxiously await the band’s 10th album, a follow up to 2009’s highly successful Evangelion, founder and front man, Nergal has put together a caustic gift for his followers.
Abyssus Abyssum Invocat is a 2-CD set repackaging of the band’s EP’s Conjuration and Slaves Shall Serve, released in 2003 and 2005 respectively. The set features 18 tracks; 7 studio, 11 live. The songs have been remastered, and the whole package gets new artwork, bonus tracks, etc. All the good stuff you’d expect from Nergal and company.

Says Nergal of the project:
“There’s been a demand for our long-time sold out EP’s…Conjuration and Slaves Shall Serve represents more experimental side of Behemoth’s nature. Apart from live versions and studio songs from Demigod and Zos Kia Cultus era, you can find us challenging ourselves with covers of such acts like Nine inch Nails, Nefilim or Danzig among others. Abyssum is a compilation of these two materials with extra packaging, new outstanding cover, rare live pics and unreleased bonus songs. Enjoy!”
Abyssus Abyssum Invocat is at once dark and visceral, clawing it’s way up from the bowels of hell and burrowing into your brainpan. Yes, it’s that fucking good. But then again, we are talking about Behemoth, so why would we expect less? This set breathes new life into a couple of despair-tinged jewels left too long gathering dust on the shelves.
Casual fans of the band may not get the pure wicked pleasure out of this set that the diehard fans will. But if you’re any kind of fan of extreme metal, black metal, death metal, et al, you want this set in your collection.
Ah, the beautiful decay.
