Atreyu drummer/vocalist Brandon Saller is taking advantage of the band’s current hiatus to express another side of his musical diversity. While writing for Atreyu’s last album he found himself with a surplus of material that he felt close to, but he knew it was not in the band’s wheelhouse. The seeds began to germinate.
When Atreyu ended its 2010 touring cycle, which included a critically praised showing at Mayhem Festival, Saller began devoting his time to cultivating what he came to call The Black Cloud Collective.
The highly versatile multi-instrumentalist began recording a few tracks, some of which offers Saller, had a “more folky feel.” The more time he devoted to The Black Cloud Collective, the more it became clear that this would not merely be a solo project, but rather a full on band.
The band offered up fans a taste of what to expect when they released “Hail Mary!” this winter. An EP is expected this spring, with a full length album to follow in the summer.
The band is currently taking part in Monster Energy Drink’s Outbreak Tour with Rev Theory and Pop Evil.
Brandon took a few stolen minutes before the band’s Des Moines, Iowa show to fill Metalholic in on his new passion and how the BCC came together. He shares what it’s like to come out from behind the drum kit to front his new band, and even tells us what types of movies he likes and what instrument he played way back in elementary school. So take a few minutes and listen to the band’s debut single below and hear Saller introduce you to The Black Cloud Collective.
