Arch Enemy are finally back with their first new studio album since 2007’s The Root of All Evil. Their eighth effort, Khaos Legions (Century Media) takes them further into the dangerous social underpinnings of the current world order.
Vocalist and primary lyricist, Angela Gossow, is very intense and passionate about music, and the message Arch Enemy conveys. Gossow will quickly tell you what she perceives to be wrong in the world, and she espouses those messages and beliefs through the band’s records. A confirmed Anarchist and Atheist, Gossow firmly believes that religion, and faith in a supreme deity, is unhealthy. “There is no God. Just fucking deal with it!”
Her message is less anti-religious than it is pro-freedom. “Be happy the way you are,” she says. “Be responsible for yourself.” Live your life, be happy, and do no wrong unto others. In essence, religion is spiritual slavery, while taking charge of your own life, your own soul, is real freedom.
This week Metalholic had an opportunity to sit down with Arch Enemy‘s outspoken growlist to talk about Khaos Legions, touring, her personal heroes, why we’ll never hear her “clean” singing voice”, her passionate world views, and what she sees as the negative and sometimes devastating effects of religions around the world.
