Amon Amarth interview with Ollie Mikkonen
Amon Amarth, the Swedish melodic death metal titans have landed on U.S. soil in support of their newest album, “Deceiver of the Gods”. They have staked their place on the main stage for this year’s Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival, which mark’s the band’s first appearance on the massive annual metal pilgrimage. Before Amon Amarth’s Day 3 performance in Boise, Idaho, guitarist Ollie Mikkonen sat down with Metalholic to discuss making the new album, and much more.
“Deceiver of the Gods” is the band’s ninth studio effort and its highest charting album to date, breaking the Amon Amarth‘s previous sales records around the world. The album landed at #19 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart and #19 on the Top Current Albums Chart.
Commented the band of their latest triumph:
“The fan reaction to Deceiver of the Gods around the globe is both amazing and overwhelming. Our fans are strong and true and we are humbled by the support. We look forward to visiting everyone on the road.”
The band decided to step out of its comfort zone for “Deceiver of the Gods”: Having recorded their previous albums in Sweden, the band opted this time to head to Backstage Studios in Derbyshire, UK. Likewise, the previous three albums were produced by Jens Bogren (Soilwork, Opeth, Kreator). This time they tapped the legendary Andy Sneap (Killswitch Engage, Megadeth, Opeth) who produced, mixed and mastered the album.
The band’s stage-set for Mayhem Festival is mammoth and includes a Viking Longboat and the amassing armies in the war between Odin and Loki
The band is currently putting the finishing touches on its newest video for “Father of the Wolf” which Mikkonen hails as another large epic piece. You can check out the full interview with Ollie below, then catch the Norse metal lords on the 2013 Mayhem Festival.
